aWhy we do it

Access to female condoms, which are a highly effective STI, HIV, and unintended pregnancy prevention tool, is woefully limited.  At the same time, it is clear that more prevention options are needed to keep all Chicagoans healthy.  Cook County ranks as first, second, and third nationwide for numbers of cases of gonorrhea, chlamydia, and syphilis, respectively, and counted approximately 1,500 new HIV cases in 2008.  FCs expand prevention choices, which is very important to increasing the number of protected sex acts.

In addition to the obvious need for more prevention options, female condoms are also the only barrier method controlled by the receptive partner, which allows both women and men to take control of their own health.
